Here's an item checklist:
Sandpaper To smooth out uneven surfaces.
Sanding block To wrap the sandpaper around.
Turpentine For cleaning spills and brushes with oil-based paint.
Cleaning rags For wiping surfaces clean before painting and cleaning up any spills.
Masking tape To protect light switches, sockets and surfaces from accidental paint splashes.
Covers Use special drop cloths, plastic sheeting or old newspapers to protect floors or furniture.
Scraper Handy for removing peeling paint.
Screwdriver Or similar tool for prising the lid off the paint.
Brushes and rollers Recommended are a 3-inch flat brush, a half-inch brush for narrow frames, a small angled brush for corners and around wall features and a roller with extra sleeves and a pole extension for high ceilings.
Paint roller tray For storing the paint and draining the roller (it’s important not to overload the roller so that you don’t drip paint).
Wall putty or spackle To patch up cracks or holes in walls before painting.
Filling or putty knife For pushing putty or spackle into cracks and holes.
Sponge and squeegee mop Use the sponge to wash down walls and the mop for ceilings.
Containers Use buckets or tubs to soak brushes and rollers in after painting; keep other painting tools together in another container.
Ladder For painting high areas.
Protective gear Such as facemasks, shower caps (useful for ceilings to protect your hair) and disposable gloves.
